Next month, Rena and I will celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. Yep, that’s right the following year is a HUGE milestone. Sure, it seems as though we got married then really young. Well, we did.
Where should we go? I’ve thrown out the St. Regis resort at Bora Bora in French Polynesia. If this fits in the budget. But, I’d be just as happy driving to Key West and back. Both have beaches, palm trees, sand and sun. All of which add up time we can spend doing nothing but “being”.
More importantly though is the trend towards waiting to marry. According to a recent Gallup poll, Millennials are less enthusiastic about marriage than older generations, although the majority still want to get hitched at some point.
If I could speak to them, I’d tell them “NOOOOOO”. It’s so nice to still be going strong and have kids grown, fun cars again and weekends spent just kicking back. We now have time to play golf, go to concerts, watch movies, play music loud, and late. Anything we want.
OK kids, get your education, have a year of fun. Get hitched. Have kids. Take good care of them. Send them off to college. Then celebrate. You don’t want arthritis to get in the way of holding a baby. And you also want to be able to head off to Bora Bora without having to hire a sitter.
